Before you replace the entire dryer, a good rule of thumb is to troubleshoot and see how badly it’s clogged—it might be easily cleanable. You should also check the filter. If both those parts are in working order, you should consider replacing the dryer. It’s only downhill from there.
Burning Smell
If you smell burning, don’t overlook it! This is a warning sign that your dryer hose is jammed or broken. That prevents hot air from escaping. Eventually, it might start a fire, so you should never ignore it. If you can’t fix or detect the source of the burning, turn your dryer off, unplug it, and call a professional to fix it. It could signify that it’s time to replace your home’s dryer. Don’t put your life in danger.
Too Much Noise
Generally, the dryer makes a fair amount of noise. However, if you notice a steady or sudden uptick of noise from your dryer, it might be time for a replacement. However, don’t be too hasty—the strap could have snapped, leaving the drum in freefall, or the drum could have slipped off its axis, causing more of a ruckus than usual. Sometimes, your blower wheel is defective. Troubleshoot for those things first, but if the dryer continues to be loud, get a replacement for your peace of mind and quiet.
