Things To Know When Choosing a Dishwasher

Things To Know When Choosing a Dishwasher

The holiday season is a fantastic time to shop for home appliances like dishwashers because of all the sales going on. However, you may not know exactly what you’re looking for in a new dishwasher. Read on to discover what you need to know when choosing a dishwasher.

There Are Different Kinds

In the United States, built-in dishwashers are fairly standard. However, there are actually several kinds of dishwashers to choose from, including full console, integrated, countertop, and freestanding.

Full Console vs. Integrated

A full console is the most common type of built-in dishwasher. These dishwashers have all the buttons on the outside, near the top of the machine. An integrated dishwasher usually blends in with your cabinetry and hides the controls on the inner lip of the washer door.

Countertop vs. Freestanding

Freestanding washers used to be more common. Many have a countertop-like butcher block on the top to give you extra space for prep or storage. Since these machines don’t need to be built-in, you may have more space for cabinets. Countertop models are much smaller, making them perfect for small spaces like apartments and guest suites.

Dishwashers Save Water

Another thing to know when choosing a dishwasher is that they’re incredibly water-efficient. Some people mistakenly believe that washing dishes by hand saves water. That might have been true at some point, but most dishwashers are now very water-efficient, especially if you have a large load of dirty dishes to clean.

They Require the Proper Detergent

If a dishwasher manufacturer says to only use a certain kind of detergent for their machine, don’t use any other kind. Using the wrong detergent can clog your dishwasher and cause it to become inefficient. In extreme cases, using the wrong detergent could even ruin the finish inside.

Smart Dishwashers Are Worth It

Some people roll their eyes at the idea of smart appliances, but trust us when we say they’re worth every penny. You can program a smart dishwasher to run at certain times so you never have to worry about forgetting to start it. You can also set it to clean itself on a regular basis so you don’t have to think about that, either.
