Get Rid of the Unpleasant Smells From Your Home

Most people have found themselves surprised by an unpleasant smell from either a refrigerator, washing machine or other appliance. Home appliances are something we use every day and sometimes we forget something in the fridge, vacuum a piece of food or don't completely empty the washing machine, which can lead to undesired odors. However, there is no reason to worry. With tips on how to get rid of unpleasant odors, you will be able to neutralize some of the most common causes of this situation from your home faster than you thought.

Unpleasant Smell From the Refrigerator

This issue can be the result of various factors, such as improper storage and packaging of food, spoiled food or dirt that has accumulated inside the refrigerator or in its drain. By choosing the right refrigerator, you will ensure more optimal storage conditions and longer duration of your food. Considering the amount and different types of food we put in it, an unpleasant smell from the refrigerator is something that can happen to any of us. In a few simple steps, you can refresh your refrigerator and make it safe for your favorite foods again:

Remove any food that has gone bad or expired.
Check the drain inside the refrigerator and clean it according to the instructions if it's blocked.
Wipe down the inside of the refrigerator with a mixture of vinegar and baking soda. You can also add a little lemon for extra freshness and an additional summer feel.
Add some fridge freshener or a bowl of lemon and baking soda to absorb food smells. You can also insert coffee beans or used filter coffee bags, which will have a similar effect.

Unpleasant Smell From the Dishwasher

It may happen that your dishwasher surprises you from time to time with a bad smell when you open it. This happens especially if you don't turn it on every day, so food residues from the dishes can cause the development of bacteria. The first thing you should do is to check if there are food residues or dirt stuck in the filter, which is normal after a lot of washing cycles and can be the cause of the unpleasant smell from the dishwasher. Check the inside of your appliance to remove any leftover food or packaging that may have stuck to the walls or grates. Many of these appliances have self-cleaning feature among the others, so from time to time turn on an empty dishwasher and select this feature. Depending on the manufacturer's recommendation, you can add one of the cleaning maintenance products designed specifically for these appliances, or you can put half a lemon in the basket and run the wash cycle.

Unpleasant Smell From a Washing Machine

We all know how much time washing machines save us. However, the large amount of moisture and heat that is produced during the regular processes in them is ideal for the development of various types of bacteria and mold. With proper maintenance, you will prevent their development, as well as unpleasant odors that can cause a bad smell in the entire home. However, you can remove the unpleasant smell from the washing machine very easily. Enhance your machine with a few simple steps so that your laundry smells good every time:

Check the detergent and softener drawers - Remove any detergent deposits and extra moisture.

Check the rubber on the drum of the washer - Pick up extra water and small objects that may have got there and wipe it with a disinfectant or cleaning maintenance agent for the washing machine.

Look at the filters - It may be time to regularly clean the filters and remove accumulated particles.

Refresh it from the inside - Run an empty machine on an intensive washing program, preferably at 90° C or 194° F, preferably with the addition of a washing machine cleaner or descaling agent. For a better effect, turn on the pre-wash option.

In order to reduce the possibility of strange smells appearing in your washing machine, make sure that you wash your clothes at higher temperatures at least from time to time, at least 60° C or 140° F. Remember to move your washed clothes from the washing machine to the dryer in a timely manner. After washing, leave the door open so that the inside of the drum can dry nicely.

If the problem is an unpleasant odor from the dryer that is not due to a malfunction, try wiping the inside of the drum with a lemon and vinegar based product. This combination can be a great solution for eliminating unpleasant odors and refreshing the drum.

In order to avoid these situations, always use the recommended amounts of detergent and fabric softener when washing clothes.

Unpleasant Smell from the Vacuum Cleaner

A functional vacuum cleaner will make your floors clean and safe for exploring with bare feet or playing with the little ones. What if an unpleasant smell from the vacuum cleaner fills the room when you turn it on? It can certainly spoil the impression of a clean home. Although it may seem discouraging, sometimes it is enough to do the simplest things and solve the problem as if it never existed.

First, empty the bag or container on your vacuum cleaner. It's possible that you accidentally vacuumed something smelly. Once youve emptied the container, your vacuum cleaner will be working like new again. Check if there is anything stuck in the hose or pipe of the vacuum cleaner, and if the filter is in proper condition or needs to be replaced.

If the cause of unpleasant odors is not something that can be solved with the above tips, it is better to contact an authorized service center for professional help and advice.
